Yes, I know you are confused, and yes there is better, but after such a long sojourn of being locked away in that modern day concentration camp known as the “gud ol’ U S of A” it is the simplest things that shine the brightest.
Then of course there is the Cuba Libra (rum and coke with lime, for you novices out there). How can you really make a true Cuba Libra with out Cuban rum? The answer is, you can not.
I am sure you thought the answer was … just use Barcardi. Well, not to get political or anything, Barcardi has not been Cuban since they left Cuba and swam over to Puerto Rico. What kind of message does it send when you create one of the most quintessential and classic drinks of all time then abandon the country that you name it after?? Heresy I say, I am not having any of it … unless of course, it is all that is left.
Barcardi is truly embracing the spirit of Cuba Libra. They wanted to be free of Cuba so they swam to Puerto Rico.
Free of Cuba but not a Cuba that is ‘free’, especially in the world today, but maybe soon. Not that there is anything wrong with Puerto Rico, one of my favorite places to go diving, Isla de Culebra – Beautiful!! Seemingly, all the things that you can not get in the US are just that much better when you are able to readily find them on the local store shelves.
